White Gift Sunday to support the Calgary Sharpe Foundation
Let us transport you back to the roots of White Gift Sunday, a tale that began in 1903. Picture this: a thoughtful woman, troubled by her children’s squabbles over the value of gifts. In response, she suggested a beautiful solution. Children, along with the Sunday school community, would wrap their gifts in white paper. This simple act aimed to obscure the gifts’ value, fostering unity and joy in giving, regardless of economic status.
The spirit of this tradition is alive today. Communities unite to make a difference. Churches, including ours, play a vital role in bringing joy to someone’s Christmas through simple, meaningful gifts.
Why White Gifts matter: Last year Symons Valley United Church raised over $2,000 for the Sharpe Foundation providing gifts to over 20 resides and providing kitchen ware for one of the building kitchens. The Sharpe Foundation have been long time community partners and glad we can support them during this season
